JESUS said: 'When you pray, go into a room by yourself, shut the door, and pray to your Father, Who is there in the secret place. '(Matt 6. v. 6N.E.B.) Try to set a time apart every day to withdraw from the world and all its clamour and enter into the innermost of your own heart, your own soul, and there seek communion with the eternal light, the supreme Being. Called by many names, this is the one supreme truth of life. It is light and beauty, justice and wisdom, gentleness, meekness, love - all the godlike attributes of which man is capable. All that is true and beautiful in life lies deep within every soul - and that is God, the Source from which every soul derives its being. Through these periods of true prayer or meditation, the higher self becomes quickened, opened up, instead of lying asleep in the darkness. The light pours into it and it becomes aware that it lives.

Be patient, dear ones, be patient with those about you, but above all be patient with yourself. We notice that you all become impatient with yourselves. Don't do that. Be strict with yourself, but be patient too, as you would be patient with your brothers, those with whom you live and work. Be patient on your spiritual path and in your development. Don't try to rush forward. The ancient teaching is that if the soul rushes forward it comes up against a sharp instrument, which pierces the heart, and is hurt.

So remember patience: patience in your development, patience with your fellow beings, and patience with yourself- and then you will find a glow of joy and peace which will carry you forward on your path of development. You can only grow with patience, not by rushing forward. Look at a little seed in the earth, the plant, the sapling, it grows quietly and slowly always, putting down strong roots and growing gently towards the Sun.
