Patricia writes: 'Uranus has been in Taurus since May 2018 and will remain there until April 2026. Amongst other things, Taurus relates to our values, material assets and finances. At the collective level it is associated with national economies and financial systems. Uranus is the truth- and light-bringer helping us to realise what is really going on, what needs to change and then bring about changes that can be ground-breaking. The proximity of Mars to Uranus and the square from Jupiter to both of these planets has focussed attention on these issues. In January, this was seen in some parts of the world in rebellious action. The urge to break away from old systems and change the world is still present but the emphasis is gradually changing as the steadying energy of Saturn is increasingly felt.

There is currently a square between Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus. It is worth looking at this interaction in the context of a longer timeframe as it can give a wider perspective on what is happening and help us appreciate that a cosmic plan is working throughout life. Back in January 2020, the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn heralded significant changes in the power of authorities and the structures of organisations worldwide. Such changes came about as a result of the pandemic. As Pluto remains in Capricorn until 2023/24 we will continue to see some changes of this nature for a while yet. However, the breakdown of values and systems that no longer served humanity has been necessary before people were willing to look at new systems and different ways of life based on kinder and more compassionate values that are less materially orientated. With the Saturn-Uranus square, there is now the potential to bring about radical but constructive changes, which implement ideas and technology that are in line with current humanitarian ideals. Furthermore, this could be done in a measured way.

The apparent paradox of bringing about progressive change in a measured way can be understood by looking at the astrology of the Saturn-Uranus square. Saturn and Uranus both rule Aquarius. Saturn is in that sign while Uranus in Taurus is square to its co-ruler. Aquarius and Taurus are both fixed signs with an underlying energy of wanting to keep things as they are. Saturn, related to regulations, discipline and structure, can be conventional and likes to stick to the rules. Uranus is the opposite. It is unconventional and seeks the fastest route to truth even if that is somewhat revolutionary. After the global upheaval during 2020, people are more ready to accept that we cannot go back to how we were and so are more open to look at how we can do things differently, in a better way. We have already seen some new ways of life emerging. These include increased home learning and more medical consultations conducted by phone. It is likely that we shall see many more changes in life style, including some we have not even dreamed of.

Mercury is retrograde in Aquarius from 30th January until 21st February. While this planet of the mind and communication is retrograde we can take the opportunity to examine these facets of our lives. Is there anything we want to re-think? Is our way of thinking how we really want it to be? Do we speak truly and kindly? Thoughts, although we cannot see them, have a profound effect on the etheric level of life. Thought can be helpful, constructive and support other people, be they people we know or those in the public arena. Thoughts can also have an effect on other realms of life. While Mercury is retrograde in the sign of the zodiac associated with brotherhood, it is a particularly significant time to be aware of our thoughts and how they are affecting all parts of life on Earth.

On 1st February, Venus moves into Aquarius extending opportunities for harmony and balance in groups and the community. For nearly three weeks, there will be five planets in this sign. The Moon joins these planets for two days around the time of the new Moon in Aquarius on 11th February. This can be a profound new beginning in being more socially responsible, in new technological advances and developing the use of our minds. This is not just use of our minds to be more objective, rational and logical in daily life but to further how we use our minds to project thoughts of love into the world. The power of thought could develop considerably during the Aquarian Age. The coming few weeks are an ideal time to consider how we can control our thoughts so they can be used constructively.

This emphasis on the mind is balanced by a sextile between Mars in the earth sign of Taurus and Neptune in the water sign of Pisces from 12th to 16th February. While our minds could be busy at that time, energy can also be directed to spiritual values and interests. We could use our thoughts to decide how we could give service through doing something practical that is kind and compassionate. The current planetary interactions also offer the opportunity to use our minds to monitor and steady our feelings, which can lead to greater inner peace.

After the challenges and demands of last year, there is hope that society can now start to build its future, one that brings great equality amongst people and respect for other parts of life, the environment and the planet. As Saturn and Uranus are square for the rest of this year and well into 2022, there is plenty of opportunity to bring about progressive, even unconventional, changes in carefully considered and responsible ways.

Keep well, stay happy.
